MU: Dark Epoch

From the moment you turn this "game" on, it takes all control away from you. The character creator seems to instantly lock you in with default settings half the time, with your only real recourse being to try again with a new character. The core "gameplay" loop consists primarily of clicking a button, and then waiting 1-5 minutes before you are able to click the next button. The only agency you have over any aspect of the game is clicking through menu after menu with the sole goal of increasing a number by a few points. It's like if a developer tried to make an idle game that was also an MMO and failed miserably at both.

This time vampire became one of the few sponsorships I failed to complete simply because to reach the goal in the presented time frame would've meant not streaming, just so I could fervently click on the next floor of Blood Castle and, if I so desired, watch what may as well be a pre-rendered animation for the 82nd time. The visuals were ugly and uninspired. I ended up muting the audio almost immediately since it became so grating to listen to, not that I would've had it playing anyway, as this "game" was only tolerable to "play" while I watched YouTube on my main monitor. Half of the information in the game didn't even make sense since it appears to have been localized to English by a 12-year-old on Google Translate.

The loop was so monotonous, there was legitimately no difference between low level and high level gameplay. It was just click every button on the UI → Try to upgrade your gear → get farmed by another player 3 levels higher than you who can kill you in less than 2 seconds. It managed to be braindead-easy, while also somehow requiring almost encyclopedic knowledge of undocumented information to play well.

One would be hard-pressed to make a less fun game if they were actively trying to. Verily the digital equivalent of watching a plant grow. A plant you need to water for 3 hours every day, or it will bear hardly any fruit. By far the closest thing to "fun" to be had in this "game" was teaming up with 2 or 3 of your guild members to spam guess the answers to trivia questions once a day for some bonus items, extra if you spam faster than any other guild.

This software is a chore to interact with, it's only redeeming quality is that it at least appeared to be stable and was not prone to lag or crashing. I would recommend this "game" to anyone who hates fun and themselves. I'd say you couldn't pay me to play this, but, clearly, you can.

1/10
