Silliards

"What the Golf?" meets "Kids"

Silliards is a silly little game about balls.

Controls

Given the diversity of game styles, it was nice that the controls remained pretty much exactly the same the whole time. The most difficulty I had with the controls was in the car levels, but I don't think changing the controls would necessarily improve the experience, it adds a little difficulty and makes clutching a mistake feel more rewarding. The game definitely felt like it controlled exactly as it was intended to. I am a big fan of the little indicator line on the power gage that shows you your last shot as well.

Comedy

The comedy of this game worked really well for me, I laughed out loud multiple times at the ways my expectations were subverted as I progressed. All the bits were well executed with great comedic timing. The occasional "proverbs" scattered throughout were a fun touch as well. I haven't watched back my footage, but I'd imagine I had a stupid smile on my face for the majority of my playtime.

Sounds

The sounds were great, striking the cue, balls colliding, the level select screen, all very pleasant to the ear. Combined with a beautifully made original soundtrack by famed video game composer Zach Govin for a satisfying audio experience.

Graphics

There were certainly graphics!

Other Notes

Conclusion

Silliards is a fun little indie game, it only takes about an hour to complete, but what a treat that hour is! Some components of the game were a little "rough around the edges", but it didn't detract from my experience, as the gameplay tended to be rather robust. The difficulty is rather easy, which is fitting for the type of game Silliards is. Silliards is free, fun, and hilarious. I would recommend it to anyone, and will be sending it to my favorite small streamers to see their reactions to it as well!

9/10
